Another example of what's wrong in our education system

Instead of teachers trying to force feed our kids " Healthy Food " ! they should get the chalk working on the blackboard ( oops ) instead.

Re: Another example of what's wrong in our education system

Personally I think th headline would be more accurate as 'Pupil Suspended for Breaking the School Rules'.

That wouldn't be as sensationalist though would it?

As a society we can't have it all ways, we either want our children to eat healthily or we don't, we either want them to follow the rules or we don't.

This suspension is less about the food, and more about the fact that this boy decided to continue to break a rule that both he and his father had broken previously. I think he's gotten what he deserves.

and as for blackboard i don't find that offensive but i do find the term white board to be derogatory to my racial group .

Personally, I don't think its any of the schools business what the kids eat. Its parents that need to teach kids moderation in everything... Just like I don't think its schools' businesses how people have their hair cut.

I think the politically correct term is CHALK BOARD (instead of blackboard) but I don't think theres another term for a white board (maybe its dry-wipe marker board?)

The school stopped both this boy and his father ripping off other pupils. When they asked him to stop, he disobeyed, so the school suspended him.

How on earth is that a bad thing?

50p a bag is that not about the average? Yes you can get them in multipacks for a lot less but I'm certain I bought a branded pack of crisps for 55p a pack the other day. On a motorway services it would have been £1 but that never makes the news does it?

I object to the article on grounds that it states that the boy earns £15 per day. Assuming 50% gross profit he would have to sell 60 packets of crisps to earn £15, crisps normally come packed in 48's so he would have to rock up to school each day with a full box plus 12 packs to make that money. Perhaps the bbc are confusing earn money with gross takings which is pretty much straight forward for the press as it makes for better headlines.

My boy is 13 and sells the odd sweet and chewing gum at school and I actively encourage this sort of entrepreneurialism as it will do him more good than learning about 1st world war tanks..

Actually he isn't learning about tanks..he is hopefully learning about the futility and waste of war and how it is all too easy to get into a war that resolves no issues.

Schools do teach about business as part of IT courses..and they teach about ethics as well.

The imposing of school rules is an early lesson on how the world of trade and services survives on RULES...

It's also preparation for life in a society where there are laws, regulations and codes by which we must all abide or face the consequences.

Ofcourse what you say is only valid opinion in an ideal world.
While we live in a country where we are told " Do what I say Not as I do " your opinion is imo a pipe dream.
We should not have a situation where " Teachers " are the guardians of the health of the country.
They should be doing what they are paid for, which according to some business leaders is not being done well enough.

We live in a world that it is far from ideal but we still have laws, regulations and codes and we have various sanctions to enforce them.

It's true that there are people who preach one thing but practice another but then again there are people who practice what they preach. If that wasn't the case we would not have so many charities populated by caring people.

Teachers should not have to be the guardians of the health of the country. In an ideal world people would be responsible and mature enough to lead a healthy lifestyle of their own volition but given that we are not living in an ideal world the government has decreed as part of the Personal, Social and Health Education component of the curriculum that children need to learn about and live a healthy lifestyle. To show how important it is schools are practicing what they preach on behalf of the government.

As for the business world, the main complaint from businesses is that children leaving school do not have the necessary literacy and maths skills to get a job or to do it well but you do have to remember that for the first five years of life the child's first teachers are its parents.

Some parents help their children to learn by fostering the right qualities, attitudes, knowledge and skills. Sadly others don't which is why there is always a wide variance in children's abilities when they start school.

Schools can only build on the foundations laid down by parents and cannot perform miracles. In today's world children need as much support as possible to succeed.

But they are not, are they? Hence the need for teaching it in schools, seeing as obesity in children is at epidemic proportions.

There is and never has been, any issue with the word "blackboard." Another Daily Heil attempt at spreading misinformation.

However our job and function is to prepare and educate for life and that means teaching that which is necessary to that life.Life skills such as nutrition and a good healthy diet ARE part of the curriculum.

I totally agree but it's still surprising how many people perceive what schools teach as an imposition and an interference in their private lives.
