Beefeaters fired in bully probe

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8379326.stm

Quote:
Two Beefeaters at the Tower of London have been dismissed for harassing Moira Cameron, the first female Beefeater.
Earlier this month Miss Cameron, from Argyll, complained that she had been subjected to a bullying campaign by some male colleagues.
Seems some of us are still stuck 30/40 years in the past.

Re: Beefeaters fired in bully probe

I saw this reported on the TV and it saddened me that these men did what they did and let themselves down in this way.

I remember seeing Miss Cameron giving an interview in 2007 when she first became a Beefeater and wondering at the time how the, previously all male, other Beefeaters would react to a female 'invading' their territory.

Re: Beefeaters fired in bully probe

They deserve to be sacked and lose their coveted status as a Beefeater which should make them unemployable in the type of jobs they usually go for, in my opinion they should have their army pensions removed as well.

She`s done her time & is entitled to do the job. These two crusty old horses need a swift kick up the backside. I would never take their pensions though, they earned them.

I would say they have forfeited them and any goodwill but if not taking the pensions I would give them the bare bones just to show others that this behaviour is totally unacceptable.

Sorry I disagree.A man who serves his country does not deserve to lose his pension..that's a bit harsh seeing as they have already lost a job..

Isn't the atmosphere a bit thin up there on your pedestal?

Especially as they'd earnt the pensions before they got the yeoman gig quite possibly risking their lives in the process.

If this had gone any other way, I would have cancelled my subscription to Historic Royal Palaces. But I applaud them for dealing with this decisively and swiftly.

I too do not believe that they should lose their pensions accrued during active service, but perhaps restrictions should be placed on their benefits accrued whilst working for the palace.

Re: Beefeaters fired in bully probe

What did they actually do? There is mention of bullying but not of what has actually been said/done aside from a brief mention of defacing a Wikipedia entry.

OK maybe not a removal of pension rights for Military service but a removal of all pension rights accrued while serving as a Beefeater in what is classed as a Royal Palace would be quite fitting and would send a message to all other serving Beefeater's of the consequences of such behaviour.

Re: Beefeaters fired in bully probe

Why would it be fitting? Why isn't simply losing their job fitting? Why are you so quick to pass a sentence on someone that will impact on the quality of their life, for the rest of their entire life?

Would you still find it fitting if, 20 years from now, one of these men spent every day wondering how to pay his heating bill, or his electricity bill? Or whether he could afford to buy Christmas presents for his grandchildren?

It would send a message about bullying a woman because she has seemingly encroached on what they see as predominately male territory and would send a message to other men stuck in the past about what could happen if they continue to act in this way against women.

I know that this will not happen to them but feel angry enough to say what I feel should happen to them.

The is one thing with this blemish on their record they at least should not be able to get a job with The Corps of Commissionaires.
