wouldnt this kind of be a small security risk if say someone wanted to use the connection for illegal stuff.

depends what you mean if you mean would they be held responsible for some downloading a dvd then no there have as far as i am aware any prosecutions for that and i very much doubt even if some day some some tries to prosecute or sue for that they they will get very far

the law is far from clear and intent would have to be shown an there is no legal responsibility yet for you to have to secure your network or theirs

if you mean some hacking the network i cant see that is any more of a risk than some one compromising the virgin net

Urgh... I'm in Swindon and I can say, they should be focusing on other things first. Like taking down all the boards thats with "New Swindon" Coming soon, 48 months later.. NADDA!! Whilst this is great, it's going to be a nightmare!
