connection problems

connection problems

Can any one help
Bought a new desk top pc for bedroom but unable to get internet connection. Broadband is working as have a wireless conection to my laptop.when i recieved new modem i did not receive a set up disk but just had to call virgin to activate the new modem.I contacted Virgin by e-mail last wednesday but up to now have not had a response.Any information would be grateful

Could be lots of reasons:

Wired to the desktop or wireless?
Do you get an IP address, and if so what is it?

the lap top is is ruuning from the modem which which was connected to the old pc. ther is no ip address showing and have followed all virgin instruction from there broadband help page

You need to turn the modem off, then change device, then turn the modem back on when changing devices connected to the modem

Power modem and router down.
Power up modem first and give it a min or two, then power up the router.
