Retrieve Office 2007 Product Key
Hi,
Is there a way to retrieve the product ID key for Office 2007?
The scenario is this:
Installed new HDD and installed Vista
Original drive is installed (the old Vista partition with the program files) is currently on on D:
Is there a way to retrieve the key without pulling out the new drive and booting from the old drive again?
Cheers
Lee
PS - I'm sure Magic JellyBean will only look at the current live / running registry....unless anybody knows otherwise!

Re: Retrieve Office 2007 Product Key
The key is stored in the registry, so unlikely, most BIOSs have a boot menu hot key which would allow you to boot from the old drive but it might not be that straight forward as Windows looks to the boot.ini file which would have the old details on. You would need to boot from the old drive and use a key viewer (there are plenty about)

Looks like I'll be swapping the drive around again then!

Re: Retrieve Office 2007 Product Key
I'd go into the BIOS setup and hide the new drive by just setting it to 'not installed'. After retrieving the product key just set it back to 'auto' again.

Just use magic jelly bean keyfinder and it should pick it up.

Re: Retrieve Office 2007 Product Key
Siw is another tool that can read product keys for some stuff..
Not sure if it will open a remote registry though

I'd never looked before but it seems possible. There's a toolbar option Software/Remote licenses/From remote registry
If anyone tries this could they report back if it works please.

Question is by remote registry do these tools expect to be pointed at a file or a networked machine that you have admin rights on

The jellybean keyfinder will definitely open & read a hive from a secondary disk. It doesn't have to be a running system. I'm wondering if SIW will do the same.

Re: Retrieve Office 2007 Product Key
Tried this before I trashed the partition but it did'nt want to read the registry.
I already found the key by then - I had written it down. lol!
