UTF problems

Hi guys, again yet another linux query

Using Centos 5.3, had a forum using phpbb3 up since last year, used to use TEXTPAD and WS_FTP to edit the files and make any changes to the php files that the mods needed... Everything worked fine...

Now all of a sudden it seems that any changes I now make give PARSING errors in the php...

If I use NANO in a shell to make the changes then it works OK...

As nano is extremely basic I'm after a way of solving why textpad/ws_ftp won't work? I've tried saving the files as UTF-8 and other formats from textpad to no avail...

Any suggestions (or perhaps a better editor I can use via a shell??)

Re: UTF problems

I had the same issue using notepad vs wordpad with phpbb3, wordpad worked fine but it wouldn't have it when saved with notepad. Only affected language files for me. I didn't find a solution for notepad either, and I even tried different encoding there too. I'd appreciate a similar fix for the windows side of things if its possible for notepad
