Poor 3G on Orange

My partner has a Orange contract and I have a PAYG. Both of our phones are 3g but only hers picks up 3g.

Is it PAYG or my phone?

My phone is a Sony Ericsson W890i and hers is a Samsung U900.

Any ideas?

How old is your sim, your payg sim may only be a '2G' sim which was the problem with me and o2, I had a 2G sim on a iPhone 3G and they didn't tell me, month later I contacted them and they said I didn't have a 3G sim so they sent me one, idiots!

Anyway, call up Orange and ask if you have a 2G or 3G sim.

Plus you can turn off 3g on the phone, although i'd say it's the sim too.

Re: Poor 3G on Orange

I had an O2 PAYG sim and that wouldnt show up the 3g symbol much (if at all)

Now I have a new O2 PAYG sim and the little icon is always there.

Re: Poor 3G on Orange

Beware that some phones and networks do not allow you to switch to 'GSM only' and is set to 'Dual Mode'. I know that Orange phones can choose between 'GSM only,UTMS only and Dual Mode'.

On 3 most phones are set to Dual Mode, so when you loose 3's 3G coverage, you automatically catch Orange's 2.5G coverage so that you can make and recieve calls, texts, picture and video messages, you Cant make or recieve Video calls with the Orange 2.5G reception but can use GPRS Internet on your mobile.

3 are the largest 3G network in the UK and are market leaders therefore, they are the best if you heavily use Video Calling,High Speed internet or want to download content on the go. 3 cover 92% of the UK, the Orange 2.5G network currently covers 98% of the UK.
