Will the cable work after i cancel?
I will probably be cancelling my current 3 services with VM once my contract ends in the summer, due to financial reasons.
If i cancel my TV, will i be able to plug the thick white cable that goes into the VM box directly into my TV and get the 5 basic channels ? Is it allowed?
If so....
a) what kind of connector/adapter would i need?
b) whats the thick white cable called?
any help is appreciated
Thanks

When your contract is up you could downgrade possibly to a lesser contract, this link shows phone line for £11 per month with free TV size M package. http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/all_products.html
One of my colleagues will be along soon to offer more advice.
You would need your STB to decode the digital signal so you cannot just connect direct to your TV.

Re: Will the cable work after i cancel?
Most areas no longer have the analogue signal transmitted anymore.

So is the signal transmitted by the actual cable on its own an analogue signal?
And then when you turn the VM box on, its a digital signal?
Whats the white cable called that goes into the VM TV box ??

No it will be a Digital signal that requires the box to decode as Analogue will no longer be transmitted down your line.
As I said above if you keep the phone line you get the Basic TV package.

Re: Will the cable work after i cancel?
You are not allowed to use any services from Virgin Media without there permission or a subscription. That includes using Analogue by directly inserting the cable into the TV with or without a set top box.
It was allowed in the Westminster,Milton Keynes,Londonderry,Barbican,Coventry and a few other places during the 1980's and 1990's under BT's ownership, however as the service became commericalised, it became illegal to do that.
You can be fined up to £5,000 for using Virgin Media services illegally.
The best option is to Take a Virgin phone line and subscribe to the M TV package which is free, that way you have perfect reception plus a few extra freeview channels as well as Catch Up TV at no extra cost.
Also,if you ever want to upgrade or move your services in the future, you wont be tied into a contract and you will not have to pay anymore installation costs.
And lastly for internet, you could try Dial up internet 3p per minute if you only need to use the internet for a few minutes or alternatively try Virgin Mobile Broadband, a seperate bill is sent for Mobile broadband.
Hope that helps!

Re: Will the cable work after i cancel?
Just come across this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ia_Analogue_TV
Looking at the analogue switch off section, seems like VM have turned off all their analogue TV signals
