Not getting expected speed after upgrade.

I recently upgraded from 2Mb to 10Mb but since the upgrade I have been consistently only getting 4Mb - can anyone suggest why this might be?

Prior to the upgrade, I always got 2Mb regardless of the time of day. I am still using my original Virgin Media modem (Foxconn?) and Netgear WGT624v3 Wireless Router and I haven't changed any of the settings although I have tried rebooting both.

According to the correspondence I have received, I am located in area 20

Can anyone suggest why I am not get the full 10Mb at any time of the day? (even after midnight)

Thanks!

Stuart

Which model is your modem please click the link to check and have you tried connecting direct to the modem as that router is not supported by Virgin so you can check if that is the issue.

Re: Not getting expected speed after upgrade.

Thanks for the reply

My modem is either the Virgin Media 255 or Virgin Media 256 so it looks like it should support a 10Mb connection

I will try a direct connection to test whether the router is the cause.

Thanks again

That model the 255/6 support the 20Mb customers so it is possibly the router.

Or totally mess up and got wrong (old 4mb Config ) not sure if thats possible but hey lol log onto modem http://192.168.100.1/CmOpConfig.asp if asked for password use root root look at downstream and upstream data rate and post back.

Re: Not getting expected speed after upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestions

I connected directly to the modem and therefore bypassing the router but still only got 4Mb during a speedtest

My modem reports the following information:

Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 10240000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 512000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Disabled

What do you think?

Re: Not getting expected speed after upgrade.

That 'looks' like a 10 mB service to me, IIRC that was what mine used to look like, I'll let someone more knowledgeable tell you for sure though, and run you through fault finding.
