Re: New Graphics card

Any particular types of games preferred?

I have the 4870, a Powercolor version with only 512 RAM. That does everything I need of it in games such as Call of Duty 4 and CoD 5. Framerate, with everything on full resolution to 1680x1050 in CoD 4 is over 90fps. You can get some dotted white lines around edges of water in CoD5, which is probably one of the many bugs in that game. I also run a dual monitor setup, 22" and 18", including whilst gaming and it's quite happy.

Re: New Graphics card

Xan, is it a standard 600w or say a make?

also another vote away from OC'uk its good for comparrison but lately a bit rubbish with support (havent experienced it myself but a couple of friends have)

how much you willing to spend on a new card? as that offer for the 4870 isnt bad.

Re: New Graphics card

600W PSU should be fine. Mine is only 580W and it has to cope with a shed load of drives in addition to the graphics and stuff.

Personally I've not had significant issues with overclockers.co.uk. Minor issues with delivery methods but arguably, when I look back at it, it was myself at fault with the delivery method selected as much as overclockers. I suppose however if you buy as many parts as Zingle has, you'll expose the weaknesses in any retailer's system.

Re: New Graphics card

i would look at that card for that price but try to find it at another retailer as ocuk, don't seem to be botherd with holding there end up a warranty as mentioned here.

i have not had any trouble with them but with the way that zingle's mate has been treated i won't buy a graphics card from them again, try aria or somewhere like that and even scan.

you could also look at a nvidia gtx260 not sure how they compare but they are around the same price, and for a gtx280/285 you are looking at £200+ but that ati card does look very good for the price and to be honest i don't think it could be beat for that price either.

Re: New Graphics card

you want to hope and prey that the card doesn't go faulty under warranty if you bought it from ocuk, as they WILL NOT honour it properly they just set it running a crysis test if it is capable of running it and if it passes it they say it's not faulty.

good look to you with it and yes you will see a massive improvement compared to what you had.
