Re: Problem with IP (not 169)

If you look at the hostname you never left the Dundee UBR, it's instead just a simple mistake with the location info...which method/site are you using to get the geographical location?

Re: Problem with IP (not 169)

Has your service actually been affected by this?

IP address changes happen, the location means nothing it's just the address the IPs have been registered to, which could be literally anywhere. You could be in London and have an IP address registered to China.

Do not worry about this stuff it doesn't affect you in any way.

More annoying is that websites bother to give this information on location, it varies between semi-correct and totally wrong.

Re: Problem with IP (not 169)

I have virgin from over a year and it never happend before thats I start worry about, and its strange that happend twice in one day, about this website yes it is annoyng but the ISP should send me some info about this as well. However I write email to virgin to confirm this change You never can be sure that is not some vir or trojan or who know what else

Thank you for helping

I let you know when I get answer from ISP

Regards

Re: Problem with IP (not 169)

Virgin don't have to notify you about it, they don't promise you the same IP address. The IP address probably changed when you connected directly then back again when you connected the router.

What has happened is you just moved to a different bit of equipment in Virgin Media, probably the new equipment the 50Mbit service goes on, I can assure you that viruses and trojans can't change your IP address for you or change where the IP address is located according to geolocation.

The geolocation is just pulling records from http://www.ripe.net to guess where you are - these records are cryptographically protected from being changed by anyone bar the proper administrators.

Borrowing the details from a modem in the IP range my modem lives in note the bolded bit, even though I'm in West London it says Bradford which is where the IP addresses are administered from... which is where a site like your one will guess the location from.
