wireless networking

i have purchased a Belkin wireless GPlus router. my modem has one main cable going in & two cables coming out, one ibeing the ethernet & the other a modem cable. unable to set up wireless just with my ethernet cable as i need both for internet to work. When i contacted virgin they say i have the latest modem, but it is an NTL modem 250. can anyone help???

Your cable modem should have three things running to/from it:

1) Power cable

2) Coax cable from your Virgin Media cable outlet

3) Ethernet cable from the modem's Ethernet port to your PC's Ethernet port

You need to connect the modem's Ethernet port to the WAN port on the router, using the Ethernet cable, instead of connecting it to the PC.

Then you can connect the PC to the router wirelessly - assuming the PC has a wireless interface?

1) power cable
2) a blue ethernet cable
3) coax cable
4) grey modem cable

people I have spoken who are on virgin media only have the 3 cables so very confused. virgin were no help, in fact they were rude. any ideas would be great!!

What is the "grey modem cable"?

The cable modem needs nothing apart from power, a cable feed, and an Ethernet connection.

Do you have a USB cable connected at the same time, is that what it is?

How is your PC currently connected to your modem?

More than likley you have the ethernet ( lan ) cable ( blue ) & usb cable ( Grey ) plugged into the modem. UNPLUG the grey usb cable. use the BLUE ethernet cable & plug it directly into the router from the cable modem. then connet all pc's into the router via thier ethernet ( lan ) ports.

this is how u should set up your modem / router.

PC (s) - ROUTER - CABLE MODEM - INTERNET
your modem does not need the USB lead plugged into it.

That should cure your problem
