Can't register .dlls

When I try to register .dlls. any.dll at all. I keep getting an error message dllregisterserver point was not found
I've looked on Google and can't find the real answer of what needs to be done to fix it. all I keep seeing is people saying this and that, but not the answer to how to fix what is broke in XP and how it registers .dlls the way it always has done before.

could try running sfc /scannow

you will need a matching xp cd with matching sp slipstreamed

that 'error' generally means there is no DLLRegisterServer or DLLUnregisterServer for that DLL (ie, it's a non-COM DLL) - basically, it means it doesn't need registering.

and I'm trying to tell it I can't remember who's got my CD, and if I've got it then I don't know where it is at this time of night.

Do you have an i386 folder on your machine or a restoration partition? if so, you can edit your registry to point to that folder as your sourcepath and it will run against that (provided it matches your SP level as Zing says). I still reckon they are non-COM DLL files your are trying to register....

I've edited the source path to point to the i386 folder, but still getting errors after rebooting and trying again.
I can't remember now what started all this off with dlls not registering. it was a program I was trying to install and gave error about registering a dll. I tried regsvr32 to see if there was a problem and there was.

I can't think straight when I've been drinking. I think I should step away before I break it. I'll try again tomorrow.

google the DLL to see if anyone else has the same issue.

had a similar problem at work recently after virus ssues on a pc. tried
sfc /scannow
but we onbnly had XP, and Dell XP SP2 CDs, couldn't get making a slipstream SP3 CD to work, however installed SP3 again, and that fixed it.
