Virgins new 50mb modem?

Look at the Virgin sign on the top of this modem.

Is this the new modem for 50mb.

I can't wait to see the adverts for this.
will it be more concentrated on the smooth and sexy modem, or will it be the 50Mb?

That is the 50MB modem. I saw it at work today. Looks damn sexy for a black plastic box, lol.

Re: Virgins new 50mb modem??"

It is very very nice (and all the status lights glow blue).

Though as it is new technology, it is bigger than the current VM 256 modem (but no bigger than the older 100/120 modems)

Re: Virgins new 50mb modem??"

Do 20mbit customers automatically get upgraded to 50mbit with no extra cost? And if so, will there be a cost for having to get this new modem or will they just send that out?

Or is none of this known yet?

Re: Virgins new 50mb modem??"

No, 50meg will be a new tier and new pricing circa £50/month. There's a massive thread on here covering everything you ever wanted to know about 50meg and more besides.

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...s-started.html

Wow. I can't believe I answered that without even a hint of sarcasm.

p.s. the modem looks very nice indeed. Pity I can't justify upgrading to 50meg.

Every time i have asked CS about an automatic upgrade from 20 to 50 they have said that its not a upgrade but a whole new tier.

that may be so , but ill take function over form any day, after all do you really even look at the current modem (assuming its even in view) other than to do a quick check that the 4 lights are on and data is flowing ?.

iv said this before and ill say it again here, all the current ambit modems for DS3 are ONLY certified to Bronze level so that means NO upstream bonding so your limited to one channel , its using the newest DS2.0B format so it gets a boost OC, and the speeds VM will offer you are far lower than even that single channel top max.

but it does mean they are just trading in the old DS1.1 problems and getting a slighty better ability to offer slightly better single channel uploads IF they see fit to buy the latest DS2.0B Bronze cetified cards for the other end of the wire.

regarding that modem, its STILL not made clear the EXACT model No thats inside the fancy plastic box (wobbly too like the sammy remot controller) , so what is it's Model No. exactly ?, and weres the data/errata PDF file(s)

as can bee seen below, it might be the http://www.ambitbroadband.com/na/ind...csis-30-modem/

in the new plastic case, as that has two blank RJ45 case holes and the RJ45 connector is in the 3 space farest from the power connector/RJ45 we see in the fancy plastic case.

that kind of implys they have thought about a rather strange, but non the less welcome 1port WAN and 2 port LAN router/switch that can be used by the end users, IF these 2 missing rj45 connectors are on the PCB AND actually soldered onboard and activated in firmware.....AND internal http server pages ?

its strange that they had these (prototype ?) cases made with 3 rj45 port spaces, as all the off the shelf router/switch SOC chips i know of ,have at least 4 active ports you just bring to the edge of the PCB and solder a port on to, but any LAN router in new VM DS2.0b/3 CM CPE rented kit is welcome, IF THEY ACTIVATE IT for you the end user.

assuming the fancy case version above is the same SOC/PCB as this one OC, the supplyed PDF doesnt back this assumption/hope up OC but it does give some interesting info.

keep in mind though your NTL255/VM250 on your end of the cable is DS2 compatable and has that ratified chipset, BUT VM didnt add in the required DS2 cards that your modems plug into at the other end of the wire, so as with the NTL255 just because these new DS3 ambit can do upto 1000Mhz doesnt mean it will ever be driven at that freq...

1GHz Downstream Tuner
Allows operators to increase the frequency spectrum,
enabling new value-added services.

IPv6 Support

IPv6 is the next generation of Internet Protocol and greatly
expands the number of Internet addresses that cable
operators may use, allowing them to provide subscribers with
more IP-based services.

Gigabit Ethernet
10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet allows PCs to take advantage

of the increased speeds offered by channel bonding.
(except OC the chipset isnt certified for upstream bonding, not that that matter as this time or the mid term....)

no mention of Mutlcast capability though and thats a worry for long term services growth if VM go against spec and dont turn it on to your CPE desktop kit, you keep it there to look at the pritty blue lights i assume

Downstream
 Frequency Range: 88MHz ~ 1002MHz
 Modulation: 64 / 256 QAM
 Maximum Data Rate: 160Mbps
 RF Input/Output Power: - 15 to +15 dBmV
 Input Impedance: 75

 Channel Bandwidth: 6 MHz

Upstream
 Frequency Range: 5MHz ~ 42MHz
 Modulation : QPSK, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128QAM (S-CDMA only)
 Maximum Data Rate: 120Mbps
 RF Output Power:A-TDMA (32/64QAM) +17 to 51dBmV

A TDMA (8/16 QAM) +17 to 52dBmV

QPSK +17 to 55dBmV
S-CDMA +17 to 53dBmV
 DOCSIS 3.0/2.0/1.x Compliant

they have made pre-DS3 kit that has these 4 ports on them before OC so VM could buy such 4 port CMs if they choose to and Ambit are manufacturing real DS3 +4port rj45 CMs

Doesn't the nice, smooth, shiny, slippery, sexy modem, justify why you should upgrade?
It's easy to clean you know and is stain resistant

They will probably get Uma to advertise it right next to her cleavage. "you know you want it boys, it comes with a box of tissues"

The tissues are to keep it looking shiny.
