Re: Watchmen (movie)
This is more like it, this is what I was expecting from Dark Knight, as good as DK was, too damn tame! When a Superhero hits you, it should cause a bit of damage. Hope this kills at the box office and we can finally get back to making some good 18cert films. I know the fanboys are moaning, don't they always, they should get out more.
Just ordered the book. This will make me go BlueRay when it comes out on DVD.
9/10 only cos of a couple of Scooby Doo moments (I HATE THOSE)
Note: This isn't a Dark Knight versus.........I prefered this, I liked DK, which I am also saving for when I get BR player.

Re: Watchmen (movie)
I thought it was awsome, I really did. It just ticks along going nowhere for like an hour, then slowly picks up pace, the last hour is just brilliant to watch. Like I said, when a Superhero fights, I know they are normal people in suits, but still, when they start punching the hell out of you, it should hurt. In Xmen n Batman and all those, you don't even see blood! PG-13 n all, and it does my nut.
If you think about the X-Men films and the last two Batman films, if they had been 18, my word they would have been something to see. They are fine as is, but Watchmen, for me, shows the type of potential stuff like this can have.

Re: Watchmen (movie)
I saw it this evening.
I've never read the original graphic novel, so I was worried that I'd not know WTF was going on (I've seen so many comments elsewhere from people saying that those who've not read the original will not understand the movie).
However, not only did I have no problem with following the movie, I also thought it was, quite simply... awesome.
OK, a few iffy bits (the Hallelujah sex scene made me wish I could FFWD the projector), but on the whole it was bloody great IMO.
And Rorschach... OMG... he *ruled*!

Re: Watchmen (movie)
Read the GN during the week and watched the movie this afternoon. Very very good. For once a movie adaptation that is about 95% the same as the source material.
Great soundtrack too, apart from the Hallelujah scene, that was just surreal!
Can't wait for the extended Blu-Ray edition which I read will be about 3.5 Hours and feature the tales of the black freighter included.

Re: Watchmen (movie)
Anyone know what the music was during the flashback to Doctor Manhattan's accident? It was very familiar.

Re: Watchmen (movie)
There are a few pieces by Philip Glass in the film, I think it was one of them. Not sure which one though.
Link to all the films songs listed in the order they were in the movie.
http://reelsoundtrack.wordpress.com/2009/03/06/the-watchmen-soundtrack/
The two songs are called Pruit Igoe and Prophecies

So you have read it, and think it is 95% close, so why is every fanboy slating it? They are idiots, I will go with you. I have ordered the book anyhow, but I assumed it is as close as can be expected. Nice to see someone that has experience of both liking it.

Oooooo, a mod edit, that is a lot nicer than my effort! Sweet

Re: Watchmen (movie)
Not every Fan boy is slating it.
Yes there are a few things missing but they aren't too important and will possibly be added in the Directors cut along with the Black freighter story, that is if they filmed those parts.

I am going Blu Ray for this film. I remember watching the LOTR films, and really feeling it, my ass was numb, now they are good films, but by God did I notice the running time. Watchmen went by in a flash.

Well, no. But they seem to be the ones giving the most of it. Even if it did stray, which you just said, for the most part, it doesn't, it's still a good watch. Just wish people wouldn't get so hung up on stuff, and give credit where it is due.

There are a fair few Watchmen fanboys on one of the other forums I visit, and the majority of them loved it.
As for differences, apart from stuff which was cut for time, from what I can tell the main difference is the ending:
[Not read the comic, so this is based on my reading up on it via the 'net]
tbh, I prefer the idea of the movie version. And they both give the same feel & end result anyway.
--------------
What gets me is the number of comments I've seen from people who said they didn't understand it.
I've not read the comic, yet I understood it just fine
I think maybe some people must have watched it expecting a "switch-off-brain-and-eat-popcorn" movie.

Same here, it made total sense to me. Really can't wait for the book to arrive and get stuck into that.

The 18 cert stopped that, you deffo have to pay attention.
It has taken over $50Mill in 48 hours, for a 3h film that is an 18 (Or US equivelent) that is damn good business.

Re: Watchmen (movie)
Do you think Dr Manhattan may have taken The Comedian to Mars at one time, perhaps?
