V+ installation? really?

Hey guys,

New here, i would like to say i found this site out of interest, sadly its in despiration!
This evening VM arrived to install my V+ box ready for some great HD TV. Having made the nice gent a coffee and a brief lesson in using it he left and i sat down to play.
To my utter amasement i find in the back of my new HD VM box and in my new HD TV, VM have used a SCART as a connection!! HORROR!
Now call me stupid, but if i order a new Merc i wouldnt have a Scoda engine so why use the SCART????
I follow the instructions online to connect MY HDMI lead but no joy. So i call VM, VM in India, they say i need VM HDMI leads which will arrive in 7/10 days....... well thank you VM!!!
Anyone shed some light on this MAD MAD situation?

Re: V+ installation? really?

VM connect the SCART up because it works out of the box. To enable HDMI requires the box actually viewable and changing some setting in the options. It's a mystery why the box is designed this way...

An HDMI lead is an HDMI lead, there is no difference in the ones supplied by VM.

My installer was quite happy to use my HDMI lead when he installed our V+ box.

Have you tried what is outlined here

Q: How do I set the V+ output to HDMI? I've tried but it keeps going back to SCART.
A: There's a knack to this. After you've selected HDMI output from the Settings menu, the box does a test to make sure you really can see HDMI. You need to press the 'Text' key on the remote during the test, otherwise it will revert to SCART output after a few seconds. This is to try to stop you accidentally putting the box in HDMI mode when you haven't got an HDMI telly - but see below if you still manage!

Which instructions did you use? A new version of the V+ manual has just been published at http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/pdf/V+Manual.pdf

Any HDMI cable should work. Let us know how you get on.

Re: V+ installation? really?

Probably not for you, but hopefully it's clearer for new users. The old one left a lot to be desired.
