Orphaned birds being taught to sing.
Apparently birds learn to sing by listening to their parents, but by being reared in captivity they don't know how to.

Re: Orphaned birds being taught to sing.
Are the birds British? If not then I object to money being spent on birds from other countries. Charity begins at home. If they don't like it they can go back to where they came from.

Yeah! We should be able to eat the foreign ones! Coming over here, tasting a bit gamey but lovely with a nice gravy and maybe some mashed potatoes!
I was going to say that I hope they're not teaching baby pigeons to start cooing at 5am, but.. I don't think baby pigeons exist. Has anyone ever seen one?

Actually, at the risk of making a proper post, you do see them, you just don't know you are seeing them.
Pigeons are actually really good parents (as much as any disease ridden, flying rat can be) - and feed their offspring very well - as a result they get big very quickly, and you'll probably mistake them for slightly smaller adults.

Ah, I was under the impression they'd look more like baby birds.

I read about your daily wakeup coos. I'm sure I know that pigeon, he used to wake me up at our old flat before the landlord cut down the tree!
Up here, I usually hear crows in the morning. I like crows, but I wish they would shush until later in the day.

They're also masters of disguise, so it's possible that they've disguised themselves to look like a lamp post.
