Quote:
When officers searched the youths they found six knives, two screwdrivers, a corkscrew, a golf club, a metal baseball bat, a mallet, two wrench handles, a claw hammer and a metal bar.

They were carrying a lot of tools, the only thing missing is an MFI flat-pack, or a partridge in a pear tree.
Seriously, they should make examples of them and put them all away for a couple of years or more.

True, even if they were sent down, they'd most likely get special treatment once inside.

It might be nice to wait and see before prejudging the court case.

Sorry Coggy, but like everyone else so far I've lost faith in the wishy washy ineffective chocolate teapot justice system. The odds are stacked too high these days in the criminals favour, whilst the victims are left to despise the police and courts.

Re: Armed teenage gang stopped on bus'
Seems like old Boris was onto something when he said about getting the police onto buses. Could you imagine having to go on the bus and face that lot? I don't think PCSOs wear stab-proof vests either.

Re: Armed teenage gang stopped on bus'
They Have been charged with conspiracy so the chances of the CPS going ahead with that are slim to none IMHO.
Unless one or some of them have blown the whistle on what they were doing its hard to prove any intent.

From the original Operation Blunt (this is the second one, the first was four years ago) website:
Quote:
A/Chief Supt Tinnion added: “People seem to think carrying a knife keeps them safe when in fact it could get used against them. If you carry a knife you are also running the risk of getting caught, put before a court and you could get up to four years in prison.â€Â

Shorter Losttheplot: I know nothing about the justice system other than the politically correct* tabloid line which I will parrot endlessly with no regard for any facts, and then get angry and upset with anyone who points this out. *counts under his breath for the inevitable self-righteous rants*
* See posts passim for my theory that PC exists in an exactly opposite sense to that commonly accepted, as right-wing groupthink that excoriates and denies anyone who tries to use common sense on subjects like paedophiles, immigrants, prison, criminal justice etc.

Blah blah blah Tom. Throw a lot of words at it but the outcome is the same. There's repeat offenders because there is no effective punishment.

Re: Armed teenage gang stopped on bus'
I am sure they had a perfectly good reason to be carrying all that around with them and if they don't they will soon meet someone that will give them one. As for the courts in this country when even the damn government tell them not to put many people in prison what bloody hope is there.

Some examples of excuses that have worked and got people off charges in court from here.
Quote:
Another guy who looked exactly like me, with the same tattoo of the same girl's name on his arm, was standing just behind me and reached over my shoulder with a crowbar to hit the victim.
I've recently had threats that someone dressed as a police officer in full uniform would turn up at my door to kill me, so when I saw the policeman there I punched him in the face for self-defence.
A guy I've never seen before or since, appeared out of nowhere, ran up to me and pressed the glass hammer into my hand, before smashing a car window next to me and vanishing into thin air.
