Obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

An Englishman has been ordered to stop bragging about his criminal behavior on the internet after an extensive video library of his misdemeanors was spotted on YouTube by local authorities.
Andrew Kellett, 23, was served yesterday with an interim anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) at Leeds Magistrates' Court that bans him from posting any image or description of unlawful activity on the internet

Yeah but personally i think it is about time social networking sites did a bit of policing of what content is on their sites. I think it is disgusting that any image of illegal behaviour whatever it is can be uploaded and viewed by the public. These companys make a lot of money it is time they showed some responsibility in how they actually make that money otherwise what message are we sending and can we really be moralistic about it all.

Re: Now admitting to crimes is illegal!
Thing is, they can't, any more than we can. If you establish a policy which makes the site owner reponsible for content posted on the site, then you open yourself up to libel and copyright theft on a grand scale, also possibly incitement to all sorts of crimes.
The best we can hope for is a policy of quickly removing stuff when a reasonable complaint is made.

Not really sure you can compare say CF to youtube which has a hell of a lot of stuff on it i don't think is appropriate. Also what your saying is that it is ok for some company to start up make money and have no responsibility whatsoever for what gets hosted on their site. If that is the case then sorry but i would support any law bought in to make site owners responsible.

Then at a blink of an eye, you wouldnt have any more sites like youtube for the fear of doing something wrong.

The nature of the content that is posted on Youtube is different to here, but we are all subject to the same laws. And it only takes one 'inappropriate' post to commit libel, incitement or a breach of copyright.

Re: Now admitting to crimes is illegal!
There would be some degree of infringement considered within the law CF would not be hosting illegal content for any period of time unlike youtube. As for there wouldn't be any more sites like youtube if they can't regulate themselves then national law will have to do it and if national law is unable then fine no more sites like youtube. How do you think the many hundreds if not thousands of kids and adults feel when they find out their assault is there for all to see on some cruddy website. If it was a member of your family or a friend maybe your view would be different.
It has been shown many times that reporting content does not mean it comes off and i don't think it is too much to ask these companys to spend some of their profit regulating the content that is on their sites. If your going to say "oh well you can't do much about it" we can hardly complaibn when some impressionable youth's within our society look on sites like youtube see others sticking two fingers up to the law and society and then do the same.

Re: Now admitting to crimes is illegal!
I'm not saying nothing should be done about it. I am saying I believe they should do something, but it is not reasonable to expect them to do anything about it unless someone reports its presence to them. The site is too big to be proactively moderated.
If they are not doing anything even when something is reported, then that is very poor of them indeed.
