Re: Power Levels

Sorry for thread hijacking, but rather than starting a new one...

I have become rather sick of my 20meg VM connection. Maximum I have ever got is about 11meg connected direct to modem. People keep giving indication that maybe power levels are to blame so I would appreciate it if you can run your experienced thoughts through my numbers and see if you think getting a tech out may improve the situation?

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 0
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : -8.7 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 36.2 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 4
Upstream Frequency : 46200000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QAM16
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 61.0 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

I am ex-ntl and on the Bagley network.

Many Thanks.

That power level is way too high. You need a tech visit.

Re: Power Levels

Thanks Mags. Put some info on the newsgroups so hopefully someone will pick it up.

Fingers crossed it can be fixed and I can watch my speeds rocket

At the moment yes, but I'd keep an eye on the upstream power level.
If it goes much higher it may impact on your connection.

Re: Power Levels

Also check that the cable connections are tight, i was at my dads and he was complaining about slow internet connection (400K on 2mb service), checked the power levels, to find the upstream was at 58-61 dbmv. Tighteded the cable at both ends and it sunddenly dropped to a much better 43 dbmv, and he is now gettign the full 2mb.
