Virgin remote control
Ok, since i've had Virgin Media i've had a problem with the silver remote supplied. The range is awful, about 1m so I purchased a Logitech Harmony 525 instead (but that's another story). Just wondering if anyone had problems with the unit and if its worth getting another one from Virgin?
(oh and I replaced the batteries )

Re: Virgin remote control
I've used both a sliver and black V+ remotes and they have worked over a good 10/15m range

Re: Virgin remote control
Rule out IR interference problems first. If you search the forum you'll find many threads on the subject.

Re: Virgin remote control
Thanks, i've had a search and found a couple of threads recommending disabling any wireless devices. I only have an Apple airport so i've disconnected that and moved it away but it makes no difference. All my other remotes are fine so i'll assume its a fault with the remote or STB.
Are there any other steps I can take to rule out IR interference?

Re: Virgin remote control
Got any energy-saving or fluorescent bulbs, or an LCD or plasma TV? These can all cause problems. If so, you'll need to move your kit around so that the STB doesn't pick up the interference.

Re: Virgin remote control
There is one other thing that can cause this, I once saw a person who had placed a table top lamp in front of the infra red receiver on a VCR, just a thought

Re: Virgin remote control
Nope, no flurescent bulbs and I have a CRT TV. I just tried operating the STB with nothing else switched on (a few things were on standby) and it didn't make any difference.
