Connecting samsung tv and dvd via hdmi lead

Obviously missing something! Read and reread instructions

I have just bought a samsung tv and dvd player - I have connected them via a hdmi lead -
Tv works fine - dvd player powers on - cannot get them to communicate with each other - I have made sure hdmi lead is connected correctly - i have powered all off and back on again.

What am I missing - is there a setup that I should be doing on tv (ie a external source button) - probably something simple

Need to set up the PS2 next - any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

You need to select the HDMI source on your TV, should be a "source" button on top right corner of your remote.

Of course, you were right - how embarrassed I feel - I knew I was missing something obvious!
