Lke all the others I need help too!!

Hi I have waht should be a fairly simply set up My main Pc is connected to the router (Netgear WGR614 v5 firmware is the latest I can get) my router is connected to my virgin media modem I am 20mb speed (confirmed by conencting modem to pc directly after a little tinkle with my wireless channel I found i could get these speeds from MR WAlker's speed test
settingTue, 6 Nov 2007 13:57:47 UTC

Test 1: 1024K took 1000 ms = 1024 KB/sec, approx 8438 Kbps, 8.24 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 656 ms = 1561 KB/sec, approx 12863 Kbps, 12.56 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 625 ms = 1638.4 KB/sec, approx 13500 Kbps, 13.18 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 1469 ms = 1394.1 KB/sec, approx 11487 Kbps, 11.22 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 11572 Kbps, 11.3 Mbps

The only other pc I have connected wirelessly is my daughters Pc in her bedroom her speeds using the same test are ranging from 1.5 to 3.24 MBPS
she is using a belkin usb wireless adapter.
Not being an expert but in theory should we both be getting the same kind of speeds or is it because my pc is connected directly via the router and modem's etherner cables that I would get a higher speed.
Any suggestions or offers of help would be gratefully appreciated because at times we seem to lose the conenction all together and have to restore it by turning the router off and back on again.
Many thanks in advance

Signal Strengh
Electronic Interference
USB Ethernet
Drivers
OS
Firmware

Could be a number of things unfortunately.
Can you plug the laptop into the router too and see what you get then.

Speed on wireless is affected greatly by distance. Downstairs i get 12mb, upstairs i get 6mb.

thanks for the quick replies my daughter's pc is a desktop I was generally asking to see if there are any tweaks to boost up our speeds obvioulsy the pc downstairs would work by just connencting the pc to the modem but that takes away the point of my daughter having internet access on her pc?

Just run it and go with the suggested settings. (IIRC it creates a backup automatically).
