d-link problems
Win Vista (Home Premium) Laptop (HP... wireless built in) 1.8Ghz dualcore processor (intel)
and so on...
Just purchased a d-link router starter kit... (D-LINK DKT-110 54G Cable Router + USB Adapter Kit) from PC world... works GREAT with our two computers connected via ethernet... and our mac is just sweet with it... but the laptop takes FOREVER to connect.... *IF* it will connect..... it can take up more time trying than it does otherwise........... It started off ok.. the laptop got the connection ok.... and now we're on our way to filling the swear box....
Is it the router? or is it a possible windows update? (if so - a handy 'how to' would be good....) or is it something else?

Re: d-link problems
First of all I would ensure that you have flashed your router with the latest firmware.
Try manually setting the wireless channel to different values and see if it helps matters, perhaps a nearby wireless device is interfereing with your signal.
I would also check the wireless connection preamble setting if you can and manually set it to "long".

Re: d-link problems
thanks for the prompt reply... we had already flashed the router with the latest firmware - to no avail (took ages to find it too..!)
We havent as yet manually set the wireless channels to different values... then again, there are no other wireless devices in the immediate area... but we'll certainly look more into that in the morning

Re: d-link problems
Just as a side-note, there is a minor niggle with the router regarding the laptop and that is this....
We turn the computers off at night via the wall switch.. come morning, I have to turn it on and once the lights are all lit up, turn it off again, wait a moment and then turn it back on again... only THEN will the laptop connect to the internet (wirelessly)....
And the laptop has to be started up and restarted inbetween processes....
I have to admit, it's an odd quirk, but... there ya go... lol... unless there's an answer?
