Zing's Vista. A HD problem
In online gameing my pc freezes. One of my hd's starts to powerup it makes a click. It does it all the time and its regular. I have turned off the indexing crap as well. When I'm not online and i drag and drop files to the hd the pc freezes for a few secs the hd then makes a click and then powers up.
I am running 4hd's 2 sata and 2 ide and 4 dvd writers.

Re: Zing's Vista. A HD problem
Could be a PSU problem, what are your full specs and what wattage is your PSU and what make is it?
Also scan your pc for viruses, adware, malware & any unwanted programs.

Could be that the hdd has had its days as the bearings on the drive may have failed or the board is knackered.
You can replace the boards but they are not economical to do so, be cheaper to get a new hdd, i would recommend backing up all the data you have on this drive just in case it goes anytime soon.

Re: Zing's Vista. A HD problem
Sounds to me like DMA has either not been enabled or has become disabled on one of the IDE drives.
Couldnt begin to tell you how to check this on VISTA though.

Old style IBM Deskstar ide drives do that when there about to fail. Don't know about Vista but on XP it also makes it change from dma to pio mode in device manager. If you have any Deskstars, back them up while they still work.

Re: Zing's Vista. A HD problem
have you turned off hard drive power down in advanced options under screen saver
I have posted in the past about the hard driver powering down it does make a noise then creates lag when it powers back up again id set this first and see
