Calling Eclipse IDE users, especially Java/Python

Afternoon

Following on from my OU studies last year (and until work get their fingers out and decide whether/what they're prepared to pay for this year) I will be increasing my knowledge of Java and trying to learn Python.

To that end I've installed Eclipse (which should allow me to develop both in the same environment) and I'm trying to learn how to use it.

Does anybody know of any good Eclipse tutorials? Preferably ones that use either Java/Python?

Also, are there any perticular references that you would recommend for either Eclipse or either of those two languages?

Thanks

Re: Calling Eclipse IDE users, especially Java/Python

have you installed the python plug in?

you might want to take a look at jython as well - it's way cool

To be honest I've yet to find a decent tutorial - the best thing is to get in there and have a go - the built in help is quite good

Re: Calling Eclipse IDE users, especially Java/Python

Yep, it's all working nicely (installed Eclipse using Synaptic in Ubuntu, and then set it up to use the right interpreters for jython/python) - was just hoping to find some nice tutorials somewhere to help me take my first steps in Eclipse.

Have printed out 'Dive Into Python' (all 300+ pages of it!) and I'm going to work through that at some stage

Yeah, played with those - TBH they weren't that exciting

Thanks though - I think I'm just going to plough into it and see what happens

Thing is, IDE's are pretty much standard these days, if you can use one, you can use them all.
Personally, I don't like eclipse, but I'm force to use it Intellij would be my preference - but it costs

Re: Calling Eclipse IDE users, especially Java/Python

Ah right, I see (I think).

Any thoughts on my question about tutorials/guides?

What language do you use Eclipse for?

The in built help is awesome I suggest you read it.

I use eclipse for virtually everything so that I have all the tools in one place.... Programming Java, perl, C, C++, shell scripting, Databasing, Object modelling

CrC... was commenting on the fact that I really don't like eclipse, and have commented about it long and loud in several threads.

Now I use eclipse for pretty much the same thing as CrC... does except I find that I have to restart it several times a day as eclipse or one of the plugins has decided to crash and wipe out some functionality
