Re: csa failings

Whilst agreeing that the CSA is a clusterfrack of enormous proportions, it is a little unfair to blame Thatcher (easy target though she may be) for it - the CSA was founded in 1993, while the Child Support Act was passed in 1991.

MT left Downing Street in November 1990.

Yes, it's Major's fault really, his other great legacy being rail privatisation which has possibly cost even more.

In case anyone wonders what we did before the CSA, you went to court where a judge listened to the case and decided how much you were entitled to from the absent parent, and then issued a legally binding court order to that effect. It worked, but was horribly slow (not enough judges, courts are fairly slow anyway). Hence the idea of having a nice, streamlined modern IT based system where it would all be done by computer. Remember that next time the Government assures you some big computer scheme will make your life better.

Gotta love the CSA....not

I pay £500 per month for my 2 and most of that is due to the CSA not being fast enough to sort payments out.

I asked them what happens if I cannot afford to pay it? What happens if I earn £1300 pay £300 tax and then you take your £500 council tax is £100 and rent is £400? That leaves me with nothing to live on. They said it was tough that's what I have to pay.

Thanks to the CSA I cannot afford to see my kids now where as last year I managed to be able to take them camping and to a few places whilst this year I think I have seen them twice for a few hours and not been able to do anything with them.

I now work from 9am till 11pm+ on a Friday just to provide money to pay leccy and gas and food.

Even though I had an arrangement where I paid money for my kids + they got money for school uniforms , furniture etc because my ex got pregnant again with another chap (who then dumped her) she went to the CSA to get money for the kid then the CSA 'had' to get involved with my 2 kids as she could not work and was on benefits.

This year they are going to France again, Eurodisney. They will stay at Eurodisney in one of the expensive hotels for a week. I'm cashing in my holiday entitlement to be able to eat.

Bitter - you better believe it.

Re: csa failings

I have had many friends deeply affected by this bunch of gits and tbh it needs shutting down NOW!!!!. The callousness with which they deal with people is breathtaking and they don't even go after the people they were set up to chase they go for the fathers that are paying are playing a part in their kids lives and then hammer them more making it very very hard for those fathers to start another life. Breakup of a relationship can be hard enough without these pc prats coming in with their hobnailed boots.

Re: csa failings

They went for a friend of mine who apparently had a kid in Nottingham. Luckily for him he lived in Algeria at the time and had as a witness the Inland Revenue, who'd certified him as non-resident for tax. He didn't hear back from the CSA...

Re: csa failings

What sickens me is that I'm considering leaving my job because of this. I earn 2k per month and walk out with £950 in my hand after csa and tax/ni. Rent is £400, ctax is £100. So instantly I have only £450 per month to heat and feed and clothe myself. Thats £103.85 per week. I could leave my job and go on the dole and pick up £59.15 per week plus get my rent and ctax paid.

£40 a week worse off just to sit and watch TV all day. :grr:
