Question about Wirless Network USB adapter

Hi, I recently picked up a Wirless Network USB adaptor (54g Turbo). Can this be used to connect to the internet via a WiFi source?

Reason I ask is ive installed all the software, im getting signal and can 'connect' to various suppliers, but can I figure out how to translate that into Internet usage... can I buggery..

Can anyone help?

BTW I have my laptop set-up to connect via Ethernet at home via a router into my Virgin modem.

By "Suppliers" what do you mean!?

err.... of WiFi connections! I work abroad a lot and go through Airports and Train Stations all the time. Quite a few stations offer free connections.

Afaik, Most public hotspots require you to logon to their network before you can browse the internet even if they are free.
There should be information at the hotspot to tell you how to connect, although it may be difficult to spot at times! Try googling for the location before you go - eg BT Openzone has a list of hotspots and login instructions.

If it is a free to use access point then you should be able to connect to it and browse the Internet.
In "Network & Internet connections" off Control Panel, look for wireless networks.
Then choose "connect" and it should establish a connection.

If you need a password and username you will need to get this from the wifi internet supplier wherever you are, eg. train station, airport.

Is there anyway I can set-up IE to run the wifi and leave Firefox set-up to run the cable connection at home? I dont wanna go screwing anything up with the router and/or connection at home.

It should not screw anything up as Internet Explorer or Firefox will just use whatever Internet connection there is.

If you are on NTL (VirginMedia) broadband you should have your browser settings to connect automatically or direct connection to the Internet.
This will not cuase any problems for when you change who you connect through.
