BT scrap 300Gb download limit.

Posted by a community manager on BT's forum

"Hi Guys

You are a very observant bunch! :smileywink: I’m pleased to say that you're right, the restrictions have now been lifted. As the broadband usage policy now states, if you go over your limit you may be subjected to additional usage charges, but no restriction will be placed on your speed. More details can be found within the broadband usage policy here.

We are currently completing final tests and updating all materials to reflect the removal. A full announcement will be made next week...but as usual you guys are on it early! :smileyhappy:"

BT Infinity Option 2 is unlimited and now it means just that.

There is still the rather draconion shaping for P2P but I happen to agree with it as it is stated on their website.

Re: BT scrap 300Gb download limit.

I think a mod needs to change the title again
They havn't removed the limit, just the restriction in place if you hit that limit

In other words some BT brightspark thought "Hey many people are reaching the limit, lets remove the restriction so we can charge them extra"

If you want to be totally pedantic and we all I am sure make the same errors its GB not Gb as a b is a bit and a B is a byte 300 giga bit isnt as impressive lol

No, anyone on a lower tier where using more than you alloted usage allowance will still be treated the same so no-one's being charged extra at all.

Before though BT Infinity option 2 users had their speed reduced if they exceeded the 300GB limit.

That will no longer happen.

Re: BT scrap 300Gb download limit.

I admit I find the statement very confusing, the way its worded suggests people on the unlimited tier can be charged for excessive use.

Re: BT scrap 300Gb download limit.

Can you even download more than 300gb on the BT broadband products? heh

I remember when my uncle had it, it was very restrictive, not to mention slow.

So when did your uncle have Infinity then?

It is possible to download that amount but not on P2P which is agressively throttled during peak times, but I don't mind that.

Re: BT scrap 300Gb download limit.

Unless bt screw up like they did with us, after we'd been on unlimited (option 3) for 6 years and sent us a bill for £175 one month, and then refused to accept that they were at fault, until we had been on the phone with them for several hours
