Transferring to a new PC....

Hi,

I've bought a new PC after deciding to put my five year old workhorse out to retire.

I use an NTL cable modem connected via ethernet. I assume on the new machine I just need to power everything down, power up the modem and let it settle, then power on the PC, and this will pick up the settings and give me my NTL internet account on my new PC, without having to use the NTL installation CD?

Also...my NTL email - How do i configure Outlook on the new machine, so that it picks up my NTL email account, again without having to use the NTL install disc? I actually have two NTL email accounts with different addresses (one for me, one for the missus) we access each one by File > Switch Identity.

Finally...how can I save all my emails and address book from the old machine (again bearing in mind there are two separate email account accounts) and transfer them to outlook on the new one?

Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: Transferring to a new PC....

Open ANY Folder & at the Top click: View / Folder Options... Click "View Tab" at the top, Then Put a DOT in "Show Hidden Files/Folders" & OK.

My Outlook saves to:
C:\Documents and Settings\My PC Login Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\Load of Numbers HERE\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Copy these files to a External H/D or USB Memory (or CD/DVD) same for the Wifes Account..

On NEW PC. Create 2x Identities & then go to the Folders & Copy back the Files..

FSTW is great - used it a few times - lots of options to configure what you backup! to FSTW!

Re: Transferring to a new PC....

If you have office 2007 it will configure your email accounts for you, all you do is enter your address and thats it, and yes all you do is leave modem switched on then power up pc and it will detect modem settings, again if you use outlook you can save everything in personal folder files ".pst" then import them back
