Poor Picture Quality

I know this has probably been asked before but the picture quality i get from my V+HD box is terrible. i have a panasonic 32" TV and i connect through the HDMI cable, ive tryed setting it too 720 and 1080 but they are both the same. could i just have a dodgy box or is the picture supposed to be like this?

I have a Panasonic 26" on my V+ and HD & SD pictures are excellent. I have the V+ output set to 1080.
How is the picture bad? On all channels?

yes all channel are preety bad some more than others, they always seems to be a fuzzy-ness around the people in the picture or if they is text they is a fuzzy-ness around that.

Re: Poor Picture Quality

i have the same issue with an L&G 37" both in HDMI and Scart ... the picture quality is poor - so i usually end up watching stuff via the freeview channels

The picture quality over HDMI should be great. Have you contacted faults?

Re: Poor Picture Quality

Dean - I have exactly the same on my 50" LG through my V+. I have been informed that as mine is only on selected channels (ie Sky Sports) that this is due to the quality of downstream supplied to VM. I may well have been mis-informed. Does yours appear on ALL channels, or selective like me?

Re: Poor Picture Quality

mine is on all channels. i rang virgin up and they told me because your putting it through the HDMI lead and your not watching a HD channel it will look poor, so he told me to put it through Scart and that it will look better but its even worse through scart then through HDMI.

Re: Poor Picture Quality

We have a standard samsung box installed end of Dec - and a 42" Hitachi HD (7500) plasma and the picture is really crap, the guy that installed said a better scart lead might help.

We only watch VM TV for on demand when we miss something.

So thinking of upgrading at some stage to the V+ box if it makes watching the TV service bareable.

Technically if your using V+ box through HDMI the pic should be better on almost all channels because the box can upscale to 1080i(so they say). so why they are telling you a scart lead is better is beyond me. sounds like a "get the customer of the phone because i dont have a clue what the problem is" answer to me.

my box is coming in a little under 2 weeks and i'm starting to worry.

You are quite right. And as I have said before the upscaled picture looks superb on my panasonic 42px60 (42" plasma). Last night, I tried swapping between BBC1 and BBC HD while Hotel Babylon was on and to my eyes there was not a great difference, the pq on both channels was superb. This is totally contrary to what I expected when I bought the tv, I expected upscaling to be a bit of a gimmick. If I compare the upscaled V+ SD with freeview the difference in my opinion is greater.
This is why I haven't joined the clamour for more HD channels. More HD material would be nice but I think the money would be better used elsewhere for now.
This is just my opinion I would love to hear what other V+ users think. Maybe I just need stronger glasses .
