Question Need a new ISP for my parents...

Hey,

My parents are currently with F2S, but the speeds have been pretty shabby of late. They have an awesome line which syncs at the full whack 8Mb, but throughput is about 4Mb average. Currently paying £28/month with a 50GB cap, and I'm looking for an ISP which is similarly priced (ideally less) and with a 30GB+ cap.

Can't get LLU or cable because they live in a silly little village. Best I can find is Zen who are £25/month for a MAX line, but the cap is only 20GB I could hook them up with the free Orange broadband (my mobile rental qualifies for the offer), but I hear their service is pretty shabby...

So what good, solid, RELIABLE service providers are out there?

Cheers,

Suman

You could have a look at one of the Entanet resellers, have a look here at some of them. I'm currently with Ukfsn, and it's the best ISP I've had to date, and i've had a few lol.

£19.99 will give you 30GB peak and 300GB off peak allowances. Support is excellent, and their honesty with customers, is very impressive.

Wow the Entanet deals look really good! I was under the impression they were LLU, but it seems anyone can get their service. How are they so cheap? And surely the generous bandwidth and lack of shaping will attract all the warez monkeys and lower thhe QoS over time?

Cheers,

Suman

If they can get full 8mb sync, might be worth looking at Be*

Sumanji can't get LLU, so that rules out Be*

Enta have tripled their capacity in the last 9 months, so are very concious about developing their network, as demand increases. As you say, because of their competetive pricing, they will attract heavy users. A new central is imminent, but as an aid to the current user base, they have implemented an "anti-loss" tool, on all of their current centrals. When the new central goes live, you probably will notice very little change, in terms of quality of service. TBH I don't notice any degradation anyway, apart from being on a useless exchange, but that's out of Enta's control.

Also understand that not all users are paying such a relatively low price. Most users, from any ISP, usually subsidise the heavy users anyway. As long as the network doesn't become swamped with heavy downloaders, it should be sustainable, but all ISP's are forced with that dilemma anyway. Enta are particularly well managed, and unlike a lot of providers I could mention, they don't cram as many users onto BT centrals as is possible. And there are already plans to further increase capacity "significantly" later this year.

Cool thanks, will have to have a look in to Enta are all the resellers roughly the same for line speed and CS?

Cheers,

Suman

Re: Need a new ISP for my parents...

The "standard" resellers will all offer the same speeds, as for CS, it's pretty much a level playing field. This subforum, is where a lot of the resellers, and indeed the Entanet reps hang out. The speeds may vary, if you choose an L2TP reseller, as they can implement their own QOS, should they feel the need to do so.

Aquiss, Freeola and Xifos are, as far as I know, L2TP resellers. Standard resellers, don't implement any kind of QOS, as it's all down to Entanet.
