V+ HD & Sony Bravia KDL40V2000

Had my box installed last week and have only just
got round to tweaking and playing around with it.

A few queries:

• Am I right in saying that the only way to record to my dvd recorder
is by recording to the V+ box 1st then transfering it over to the dvd recorder?

• Where my old stb used to go through channel 6 of my tv. Where now it
goes through AV4, whenever I turn my tv on, it always come on at channel 6.
Is there a way of making it come on at AV4?

• Im having a problem with some programmes on BBC HD with sound,
where it doesnt sound right, last night it was whilst lilies was on.

many thanks

Mark

Hi Welcome to the forum.

If using HDMI or component (this disables the TV Scart and R), then yes you can only use the vcr/dvd copy function.

Although one of your TV's Scart sockets might output some of the other sources (my old TV outputs AV1 from AV2). However TV may have to be on for this to work.

Some TV's don't automatically switch to a AV source when powered on, not sure about the Sony as don't have one.

Not had any problems which the sound on BBC HD, why doesn't it sound right? Are you using the HDMI Lead supplied by VirginMedia?

I am using the one supplied by Virgin.

Some programmes the sound is perfect,
it was this lilies programme in particular then
another one but they had a preview of
Planet Earth and the picture quality looked amazing.

Hi Nashy

Have you tried unplugging the scart as this is not needed once the hdmi connection is set up. Also in the v+ box settings there is a line where you can tell it not to auto detect scart. This may then make it automatically come on to av4.

A friend of mine has same tv as you and he thinks that the av4/hdmi connection has slightly deteriorated non hd programmes compared to the quality of pic before. Have you had similar experience ?

Hi Nashy
Had another thought about your channel 6 problem. What av was that related to because you could use the tv settings to skip that input source. It would then presumably have no option but to open with av4.

Sorry nashy I think my last 2 suggestions were probably rubbish. Have been reading so much on this subject lately I think it's affected my brain.

Anyway I tested what happened with my sonyv2000 tv, I don't have the v+ box but the ntl samsung stb. Anyway if I turn the tv on it starts up on the last freeview channel watched through the aerial. However if I turn the stb on first then turn on the tv it automatically starts on av1 - the set top box connection.

Have you tried turning v+ on first, if you have and it doesn't go auto to av4 then I can't see why.

Sorry, my last word on the subject !

We usuallly leave the stb on so you would think that it
would go straight onto AV4.

Its not a major problem as I can easily oush the top button on the remote,
but it would be better if it automatically switch onto AV4.

Father in law has the same set. No matter what I did, couldn't get it to auto-switch to the HDMI input.

Have you check how is the sound when using other lead etc.optical?
The reason is software installed in Sony Bravia KDL40V2000 if you notice it only on HDMI.
