V+ Stand By mode + RF loopthrough

I understand that the V+ box is designed to be left switched on 24/7 and that there is a blue light that shines when it is in Stand By mode. After all the Energy saving tips I get bombarded with I have got used to switching my Samsung boxes off at night, particularly as they seemed to get as hot in standby mode as when left switched on. I appreciate that if you need to record something whilst sleeping common sense tells you not to switch the box off but are there any other reasons for leaving it on? Does anyone know the difference in power useage between ON and STANDBY? Also, I see that this box has RF throughput but I assume that if the box is switched off then the signal would not be passed through to the TV/VCR/HDD. I was intending to just run the aerial lead straight into my TV so this won't be a problem but can anyone see any problems with this setup.

i pretty much do the same i.e run an ariel straight to the tv as it has built in freeview and the v+ connected via hdmi and i use a scart from the v+ tv out to my dvd recorder as i get a better picture this way if i ever want to keep something i recorded.
however the scart out doesnt work together with the hdmi so a quick change in the settings on the v+ is all it takes.
as for switching the box off over night there shouldnt be a problem as i have done this as well when i remember!

When you say that the scart doesn't work with the HDMI does that mean you have change settings each time want to record via scart or has the change you made work all the time?
I also use Scart TV out on my Samsung box for recording on my Panasonic HDD recorder as it uses RGB.

if u use the vcr scart on the back of v+ then yes it will work with hdmi but the quality is worse for recording as its not rgb thats why i connected the other way and yes u need to change the setting everytime u want to record if u use a hdmi
