Help with HD picture - please

I have a nice Sony 60 in. HD TV. The picture is great with DVDs, but I get a pretty lousy picture with my regular cable service. I understand that all channels are not broadcast in HD, but all of them are cloudy and grainy. I don't get it. I've tried everything. I have all component video cables and I would think that I'd get a great picture on the Discovery Channel or the History Channel - they are broadcast in HD. But no dice. Everything is poor quality. Does anyone have some suggestions on what I should do. Something must be wrong. The picture on my regular tube TV is much better. Thanks.

So let me get this straight...

You've got a V+ box? (I presume so because you say connected with component)
It's set to 720?
What does BBC HD (Channel 108) look like? At the moment this is the only channel being broadcast in HD by Virgin Media.

Re: Help with HD picture - please

I'm no expert, but my 32 inch don't look great yet. Would need to know if you have V+, as because programmes are recorded in HD, doesn't mean they are broadcast in HD. If i had a 60 inch TV in my room i would have to sit miles away before the picture looked any good. Tube TVs are known to have a better picture than LCDs and as you get closer to an LCD/Plasma TV not receiving broadcasts in HD, then in my experience they always get very pixelated.
