Thumbs down AOL for NTL broadband/DI-604 router help

Ok this is getting to me now, whenever I connect to my Pc in my room to the internet it doesnt work after several minutes, but it doesnt do it if the pc is dowanstairs on the internet on its own. The modem works fine on its own through the AOL software, so I a sure it is my router. Someone please tell em what is wrong. I have AOL broadband for NTL, which goes through our cable box and a DI-604 router. If there is no way of it getting it work problem free again, then could someone suggest a wired router that will definetly work with AOL/NTL broadband, especially if you are doing so right now, cheers!

Re: AOL for NTL broadband/DI-604 router help

I have an AOL account which I connect through Telewest (not the AOL/Cable deal - mine's a separate arrangement with AOL). The problem you're experiencing sounds most likely to be an MTU issue.

Grab Dr TCP - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/N...ak/DrTCP.shtml

It's a little program which should help solve this problem. You will probably need to adjust your MTU for that machine, down by 28 bytes (1500 down to 1472). Occasionally it's necessary to adjust it down as low as 1430, and I have known people have to set their MTU at 1350 but theirs was a protracted setup.

Anyway, adjust it down by multiples of 28 until you get the connection you're looking for. You will also probably have to reboot your PC each time you change it.

Hope this helps.

Re: AOL for NTL broadband/DI-604 router help

That didn't work, what happens is i get kicked of the internet and then i cant get back on until i take the plugs out the router and broadband and put them back again, but now for the past wekk that doesnt even seem to get it working again. I dont know weather its something to do with the router or upstairs pc now, cos i dont get kicked off if im downstairs.
