Do NTL Engineers carry spare (V+) boxes?
I have a 'technician' coming tomorrow to look at my new V+ box which is faulty. I wont go into details of the fault here, but it is not the issues which other V+ owners have had...mine wont even boot and when it does it wont record anything.
Anyway....I have had endless problems getting someone to come out to it, faults staff who have not even heard of the V+/TV Drive etc, then an engineer was due to come on Wed night, and did not bother turning up.
I want to know if these 'technicians' carry spare boxes with them? I am certain my box cannot be fixed and just want someone to swap the boxes around. But I just know the engineer bloke will tell me I have to wait another week for someone to come with a new box. I will seriously hit the roof if this is the case as I have waited long enough and had my time wasted already.
Anyone know if they carry replacements with them??

Unless things have changed,no they dont carry that type of spare box onboard,You could ask him to contact his superior to see if he carries any .
Good Luck .
You could call them and say that itwould be best they sent a new box just in case.

Re: Do NTL Engineers carry spare (V+) boxes?
Since there's a waiting list for them to be installed, I'd guess at the only ones in the vans are for installations. I can't imagine them carry spare stock in the vans -
a) Security risk
b) Outlay of capital expenditure.

If you've reported a fault, then the chances are there will be another box in the van.

I had my V+/TVDrive replaced for the 3rd time today as the latest update killed it. Every engineer that I have had come out has had another V+/TVDrive with them.

Re: Do NTL Engineers carry spare (V+) boxes?
They are allowed to carry 2 according to one engineer I had
This is based on my personal experience and was the subject of a complaint letter I wrote so maybe things have changed.
Engineer arrived at 9am to fix a known faulty box (I knew it had a HDMI problem as the engineer told me when he installed it but at that time I did not have an HDTV so no problem and in that case it was that box or book another day off for a new box!) Faulty box (as expected) but could not change it as he had used his alloted 2 already on the same problems already and would need to come back on a different with a new box
The long and the short was a lot of angry conversation with customer services managers and engineers and the box was eventually replaced ( twice as the first replacement packed up after an hour!)

Re: Do NTL Engineers carry spare (V+) boxes?
Anyone want to take odds on .
Engineer does not turn up.
Tech did not know it was a Tv DRive he was there to repair.
Does not carry spare TvDrives.
Does not know anything about TvDrives.
Has come to fix the telephone.
Drive gets replaced ,but will have to "wait a few hours for it to work properly"
Drive gets replaced and it all works.
When tech turns up it is all working fine and sees no reason to replace it.

Re: Do NTL Engineers carry spare (V+) boxes?
The engineer that comes to repair your fault will more than likely be a "service tech" as opposed to an "installation tech" and should be fully trained on the V-box as well as carrying spare boxes in the event of being unable to repair the fault.
