Picture rolls when recording

I have a Philips DVD recorder attached to my TV and Pace box. A new problem has ocurred; the DVD recorder is set to AV2 and we can watch all channels through that and record when necessary. It picks up Channel 52 from the NTL system and we have that tuned to channel 6 of the recorder. When we want to record onto a DVD though, the picture rolls. So something in the recording process is distorting the picture. Have used this system frequently with no problems, so it's not a setup issue. Any ideas before I phone Philips? Have NTL changed anything recently?

I'm confused about why you mention both AV2 and channel 6. Please explain exactly how you've got it connected.

I've seen rolling pictures on some TVs when the STB's output is set to RGB. The TV appears to take the video signal from the SCART but the sync from its tuner. The solution (not ideal) is to set the STB output to composite.

Re: Picture rolls when recording

I mean that we watch DVDs on AV2. The recorder is set to pick up the NTL signal on its own channel 6. So when we want to record a programme, we have the recorder on Ch6 and the STB tuned into whichever digital channel we want. We can then watch the programme while it's recording (on AV2) or switch off the tv and it still records. We can watch OK through the recorder on its Ch6, but when we try to record, the picture rolls. Philips have emailed to say 'we suggest returning the device to your rental firm as it clearly should not behave like this!' How would I do what is suggested in the previous reply? I'll try anything.

Ok, I think I understand. You've got a bit of an unusual setup. It would be better if you can use SCART leads all round. And you shouldn't need to watch TV via the DVD, which will make the problem go away.
