HD preview
Why can't i watch the BBC HD preview ?
I've just bought a new HD TV and thought i might be able to see what it would look like, but it turns out i would need to subscribe.

No i don't.
What's the point in having the BBC HD preview, if you can't see it without needing a new box ?

Re: HD preview
well thats a question for telewest i suppose. I can't say i'm right impressed with the HD service, the on demand is ok, but not updated enough with new content.
BBC HD is the ONLY live channel broadcast on TW at the moment, and even thats on limited evening hours, during the day, it is just previews.

Re: HD preview
The same reason you need a HD box with Sky to view HD tv through your nice HD ready television. I would guess the box decodes the signal and the TV is only there to output the broadcast.

Re: HD preview
So without paying an extra £10 per month (i'm not sure what i would get for the money) buying a HDTV ready TV isn't going to be any different to buying a normal TV. You would think the preview would be to draw people in to subscribing to the TV-Drive. Oh well, never mind.

Re: HD preview
well you are paying for the on demand service, a PVR, and the high definition service. I watched a BBC football match the other day and it was unbelievably good quality. makes all the difference during slo mo replays.

The same point that Satellite viewers can't see the HD channels on a standard 'Sky' box, yet they can access the epg number ok, but get a onscreen message telling them they need to upgrade/subscribe to sky hd.

Re: HD preview
SD Would be fine for most TV Programmes if they didnt compress it to death. I Would rather them spend time compressing all the channels less, intead of charging us more for less.
Only sport and nature style programes will really benefit from HD

Re: HD preview
I quite like watching Torchwood in HD and 5.1 sound, don't know about you !
You can see the HD channel like all the other channels you don't subscribe to, so it tempts you to upgrade. Has it worked ?

I suppose it's a little like buying a new cellphone but not setting up a contract with a phone provider.

Re: HD preview
Also, lets not forget that the HD broadcast from BBC is only a trial and is due to end sometime in the first half of this year, as the ITV HD trial already has ceased.
There is very little true HD content available (i don't mean 1080p), a lot of what is available is upscaled SD.
I have TVDrive and a HDTV and the quality of the HD broadcasts are outstanding, i hope that BBC don't cease the trial.
