Printer installation problems
I have been trying to install a new printer for hours.
I follow the instructions, which state to plug the printer into the USB port, turn on the printer, cancel any windows pop-up which attempt to install the drivers, insert the CD and start the installation.
When the CD is inserted, the installation begins but then it states that there is a problem with the connection. I have tried everything I can think of.
Anyone know how to deal with this?

Re: Printer installation problems
Strange, normally you have to install drivers first and then plug it in. What printer is it?

Re: Printer installation problems
Do you see the pop-ups or anything from Windows to show that it has found new hardware (a little icon in the system tray). If not it could be the USB cable, do you have any other USB device who's cable you know works.

Re: Printer installation problems
Remove all drivers you have installed for the printer.....unplug it from the usb port.....install drivers...then plug it in
Or plug it in and go to system properties..Hardware....Device Manager...and see if it is listed there...if so right click and update drivers(With the cd in the drive) and try that

If the Found New Hardware wizard appears, click Cancel.
Insert the Installation CD. The installation screen will appear.
Click Install and follow the setup instructions on the screen. A number of screens will appear in succession, showing the progress of the installation. At the end of the installation, you will be prompted to Select the Cartridges Installed.
Use the drop-down arrows to select the appropriate cartridges. NOTE: In response to Have you printed with this cartridge before?, select No, it is new.
Click Next. You will be prompted to print an alignment page.
Click Continue. The alignment page will print.
Choose the number of the arrow that stands out best with each letter and click Continue. You will be asked whether you want to install additional software.
If you want to install the PC-Fax software (to enable you to send and receive faxes using your computers modem), click Continue.
Click Continue in the Printing Opportunities screen.
When the Registration screen appears, click Continue to register your printer on Lexmark's website now or Exit if you don't want to register.
Click Finish. When the installation is finished, the All-in-One Center will appear.

Strange, I would try checking in device manager as suggested. If it's listed then it should install. If all else fails try loading the CD first and then plug the printer in.

If it's like my Lexmark install disk, there are many different printers drivers on the CD. I guess it interrogates the printer to see what it is.

Yes. I know Windows will identify the printer, but we're talking Lexmark here.
There's a reason their printers are so cheap, not much is spent on the software.
Dumb is being kind.

Just checked the online manual and it has USB2 so that's not the issue. Have you tried downloading new drivers?? Did you say it shows up in device manager? I take it the device has a warning symbol next to it.

Re: Printer installation problems
That's because you haven't installed drivers yet. Have you tried downloading them?
