Loss of TV & Broadband, phone OK (just)

For the last 4 or 5 days I loose both cable TV (all channels) and also my broadband goes down at the same time. It tends to happen between 10:30 and 2:30 and lasts for around 3 or 4 hours.

I have a TV Drive which goes off-line, a Samsung STB which either freezes or goes blank and my modem (ambit 120) looses it's ready & sync lights. Then as suddenly as they ceased to work, they all perform again as normal.
Faults can't find anything wrong and no work is reported to being done in my area, although for the last few days CS systems have also been down so I couldn't even report the faults.

An engineer is coming on Wed. Any advice on what I can do to help trace this problem or steer him in the right direction would be most appreciated. The usual changing of the hardware is unlikely to solve what sounds to me as an incoming cable fault, ie water, breakage. Or perhaps there is work going on that is top secret!

I'm in Glasgow (Scotstounhill) area if that helps at all.

Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like it could be a signal strength issue which they will soon pick up

What would cause the signal levels to drop every day at roughly the same time? And why do they rectify after 2 or 3 hrs? I would think that this is more likely in the evening not late morning / early afternoon.

Just trying to get to the bottom of it.

Sugestions welcome.

Thanks again

Re: Loss of TV & Broadband, phone OK (just)

Well, just to update.

Teams of engineers have been working at the cabs & nodes to rectify this problem this week. It took a couple of days to get to the bottom of what seemed to be multiple faults at the cab end and parts have been replaced and re-balanced.

So a huge thank-you to the teams who worked on this in some really horrendous weather conditions. The guys really knew there stuff and bent over backwards to help dispite being completely mis-informed by NTL faults dept's.

There's a huge mis-communication problem which starts with the customer desperately trying to explain a fault overseas and TV, Broadband & phone faults all being under seperate systems and unable to link together in any way, which would have narrowed down the area fault considerably sooner.

Anyway, I always knew that if the right people were on the job it would get fixed, and the team were brilliant and I can't thank them enough. I hope in time that both customers and engineers will get better support from NTL's fault reporting system, which i'm afraid at the moment is both inadequate and misleading to the point that engineers are sent looking for the wrong problem.

With any luck the people involved might get to hear what a blinder they played. Cudos.
