Samsung 2100C Freezing at 'Starting'

Hi all 1st post so apologies if this issue has been addressed. I have the Samsung 2100C and every now and again i'll come downstairs in the morning to a blank screen. Cannot change channels, essentially the box is frozen.

Go through all the usual stuff (checking cables, unplug for a couple of minutes, wipe card with dry clean cloth and power up) only for it to get past the white 'NTL:HOME' screen and have it freeze on a black screen with 'Starting' in a blue box on the bottom right of the screen. The little wheel doofer next to the word starting does not turn and the box is frozen. I have the solid green light so I assume I have a good signal strength.

After browsing the forums I tried the 'hold the Down button' and got the ld14 sequence instead of the usual one but this just resulted in the same lock up on the 'Starting' screen.

This has happened twice before and both times the simple unplugging (albeit a couple of times) has had it sorted. Not this time.

Have logged with NTL faults but have to wait till 27th for engineer. Any of you enlightened chaps/chapesses know of a home fix I can use then I can cancel the engineer and get back to watching xmas pap on the telly?

Cheers in advance

Just because you get a steady green light doens't mean that all is well. The single green light is often just to do with boradband rather than the TV.

It is quite possible that the signal is just on the edge of tolerance messing up the ability of the STB to lock on to everything it needs. Having said that all STBs are subject to occasional few second freezes when changing channels or messing with the EPG.

Re: Samsung 2100C Freezing at 'Starting'

Thanks for the quick reply and the welcome Rob , don't think it's the broadband as i have a separate BB Modem or does the STB still receive a BB signal in this eventuality?

Cheers

You could have a level problem the green light tells us that the reverse is ok bu there could be more to it the higher freq could be low .Try pressing the page up buttton page down button then the blue button on the last page it will have a list of faults do you have a nit scan fail good luck

Re: Samsung 2100C Freezing at 'Starting'

I'm going to disagree with both the above responses. It's not a signal level problem. That would either stick on 'Ld:20' or you'd just get no channels.

Your best hope is if it is overheating. Make sure there's loads of ventilation around the box, and power it off for half an hour to let it cool down.

If it's not that, I've a nasty feeling it's goosed. A stuffed turkey. Sorry.
