Slow 10Mb service - Plymouth

Hi guys,

First time post on... So hello to all!

Over the last few weeks I have been having a dodgy service, page timeouts one minute, then working the next.

Also I have noticed that my 10Mb connection is running extremely slow, according to tiscali speed test I'm getting around 340 kbps, ran a few tests and getting this speed. Also ran tests from btopenworld and blueyonder gamesfiles and had similar speeds. For example see attached jpeg.

Is anyone else having problems in the Plymouth area, or is 21:30 - 22:00 considered peak time and should the speeds reduce that much in during this period? Should mention that I have tried with a wireless router and connected straight to the modem.

I took a look at this post, but their problems seem to have been solved.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

James

Re: Slow 10Mb service - Plymouth

I expect that time is considered peak, and I frequently experience far slower speeds during those times. It's most likely them shaping traffic because their ****ty network can't cope with kids downloading mp3s or whatever at 1MB/s.

Just ran that speedtest:

Re: Slow 10Mb service - Plymouth

Hi

been noticing some slow-downs myself in recent weeks .. not serious enough to disturb my online activities so far but it is certainly more noticeable just lately than a month or two ago which could be because of student activity

hate to say it but looks like we all gotta get used to it as speeds ramp up performance is going down the pan , same happened with ADSL

most speed test results tend to put me 8000kbps upwards though i have had the odd one down in 4000kbps as well but couldnt tell if was contention , traffic management or them messing about with the system

if contention & students we should know soon as they should all go home soon and speeds should be back to 'hammer time' .. if not more likely to be a get used to it situation
