If you are worried you've picked up some sort of virus or malware there are plenty of online free a/v scanners you can use to double check your current A/v. Check www.pandasoftware.com

Re: can anyone help me please?

Pete, try AVG it is very good.

Also, i know this doesn't help with this particular problem but can i suggest that from what i know about you already some games or other kinds of sites aren't safe, and sometimes it's hard to know where is safe and where isn't when you are a novice, so i highly reccomend this plugin for your browser, if you use Internet Explorer use the link on the right and download it. It shows sites as being green (safe) or red (unsafe) on google searches.
http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ff.html

Try it, it's very easy to use, i use it myself and it is brilliant

Bitdefender another option (cleans too)

you will need to use Internet Explorer, and accept the activeX download - I use it regularly

Re: can anyone help me please?

Pete,

Have a look at the symantec removal notes here. Take particular note of going to 'safe mode' and disabling system restore (viruses and trojans loving hiding in system restore!). Actual removal can still be by you normal AV in safe mode.

If that doesn't work, the only sure way to rid it is a complete system reinstall.

Re: can anyone help me please?

Hi Pete,
it may be lurking in System Restore if you have it on. Just go to system restore and shut it off, then when it's stopped switch it on again. This will clear it if it's in there. Just a thought.
George.

Re: can anyone help me please?

Pete, the page I linked to in my last post has links which give you step by step instructions on "How to start the computer in Safe Mode." and "How to turn off or turn on Windows XP System Restore". Probably better instructions than I could write.

Re: can anyone help me please?

Pia's link is for the Firefox version of the plugin.
On the top right is a link for the corresponding IE plugin.
So, if you have both browsers on you system it prob makes sense to install both plugins. Go to the link above whilst running IE, and the original link whilst running FF
