Norton 360 vs. OneCare (Windows Live)

Symantec has released the beta version of their Norton 360 software. Now I am not quite sure what the main differences are to Windows Live OneCare.

Any ideas?

Have a look here, and enjoy the American commentary: http://www.symantec.com/norton360beta/

Features for One care:

Afraid I can't really say, haven't used either of those particular products, but then wouldn't let either near my system these days

Re: Norton 360 vs. OneCare (Windows Live)

Well, I find it a little odd to buy extra protection from whoever your Os is from originally (hello? if you can fix the problems, why not do so in the first place? ) but third party tools are a-okay with me.

Norton specifically throws in a lot of different functions - some of them well known, others are relatively new like their online protection for ecommerece transaction. I am not even sure if they are the same used in other products. And then there is the really innovative stuff, too. They offer you something called online-updates where you keep your own files on their servers. (I assume there will be size restrictions, but I haven't looked yet. Anyways, that way even if your computer fries and takes the house with it - you still have your data.)

Re: Norton 360 vs. OneCare (Windows Live)

I'm a bit slow today, that Norton product is beta - I would not recommend installing it on your main system, a test box or VM yes, but unless you want to run a higher risk of loosing data due to unforeseen crashes etc, my advice, stay away from beta.

Re: Norton 360 vs. OneCare (Windows Live)

Im a beta tester for Onecare and can only say that its pretty good actually (albeit not on my machine its on my parents rig), its fairly automated, it keeps a good eye on things and integrates with Windows Update etc.

Would i buy it myself.... Nope, but then i wouldnt go near Norton with a barge pole either.

Between the two Onecare would win, otherwise i'd get Eset Nod32 and Look'n'stop firewall.

It's no worse than having to buy that protection from third pary vendors

Storing your files on line is nothing new. Anyone who has some webspace can do it. Also, Apple have had their ".Mac" service available (which provides this function as well as others) for years. .Mac also has the advantage that it is very well integrated in to the OS.

I have to admit, I would be happy to look at One Care, but won't be touching anything from Norton with a barge pole. I've had far too many problems with their products in the past.
