connecting dvd recorder to cable tv and amp

Been using tv/ntl digital/amp/dvd recorder combination for a couple of years. I've had to buy a new dvd recorder, lg dv175, but my setup's not working. Here's the same setup i used previously which worked fine:

3 scart lead connections:

1)tv to tv scart point on cable box
2) video out scart point from cable box to av1 scart point on dvd recorder.
3) av2 scart point on dvd recorder to amp scart point.

So both scart point used on cable box and dvd recorder, amp only has 1 scart point, 1 of 2 scart points used on tv.

The problem i have is that my old set-up worked in the following way:

Cable tv would be the priority, if i switch on the dvd recorder it will only come on when my amp's switched on, obviously the dvd recorder has priority. I can then use it as normal, i can press display for the cable to be viewed through the dvd player, everything works fine.

So same scart connections, same setup, new problem. Even if dvd player and amp are switched on, unless cable is put on standby they wont work.

Second and main problem, the dvd player works fine, apart from recording. I cant tune in ntl cable through the dvd player, so i cant record. I've read the manual and done as instructed, i dont get a small screen showing a cable channel. Upon recording, i just get a blank screen. Does this have anything to do with cable being on standby, or my scart connections ?

Re: connecting dvd recorder to cable tv and amp

Hi,

I have that LG dvd recorder.
I don't have scart sockets on my amp (and Sky rather than ntl), so it's slightly different than yours, but the one thing that does stand out is that
I have my Sky box going to AV2 on the dvd recorder, not AV1 as you have.

Not sure what difference this would make?
