My Apache's broken!

I'm having a slight problem with my Apache web server... as you can see here: http://zoidberg.servehttp.com/planni..._Tac_250kW.jpg

All downloads seem to corrupt, including that JPG. MP3s hosted on the server arrive very nicely at the other end, but they cut out and break up for half a second or so every ten seconds. Everything over a certain size seems to be corrupted!

For what it's worth, another server application runs on 8080 and that produces everything quite nicely - http://zoidberg.servehttp.com:8080/p..._Tac_250kW.jpg - although it struggles with anything like streaming media, which is why I have it as a backup for Apache.. for when it does things like this.

Any ideas?

Re: My Apache's broken!

Not that I can really think of... I'm not the greatest guru when it comes to this. Well, not with Windows so much, anyway. Or Linux either.

I imagine a full reinstall of it might just solve it...

Silly question maybe, but have you tried restarting the server?

Re: My Apache's broken!

I have - doesn't seem to fix it.

I can definitely confirm that no modules have been tinkered with - the only thing that's been changed since the original installation is to modify the httpd.conf file, which all looks okay to me: http://zoidberg.servehttp.com:8080/httpd12.conf

Re: My Apache's broken!

Not seen that before. Weird. If you've not fiddled with the MIME types, I'd say just reinstall Apache - doesn't take long. Something has been corrupted somewhere.

Re: My Apache's broken!

I've reinstalled Apache a few times and it seems to make no difference. I've definitely uninstalled Apache beforehand and then installed it from Xampp (which bundles it with phpMyAdmin, MySQL, PHP, etc.) and it still does the exact same thing. It's really very odd, even though it's a completely fresh installation (even on a different hard disk!).

I'm considering a complete OS reinstall, tbh!

Re: My Apache's broken!

Have you tried IIS?

It looks like your just serving pdf's, spreadsheets and pictures (thanks for the hotspot list ;p) give IIS a whirl see if you notice any differences. If not, then you could have a problem else where.

Soooooooo Apache on Windows no wonder it doesnt work (nope just kidding).

I too thought it could be a mod_deflate / compress issue : MIME types and conf all look good - pondered on it somewhat gave up and found this thread :

http://www.apachelounge.com/forum/vi...er=asc&start=0

Seems like files are maybe being corrupted on the way up - I assume u upload via WebDAV.

Looks like a couple of guys have pondered on this somewhat trying a few options but the one that seemed to work is this :

Change these in httpd.conf

EnableMMAP off
EnableSendfile off

Restart Apache

Try downloading the file via the web (I suspect it wont work as per previously)

Upload you file AGAIN !

Try downloading again via the web (couple of suspects on that thread have had results).

----- Alternatively Try rolling back to an earlier version of Apache. The latest is not necessarily the best

I'm still running Apache 1.3.x LOL from years back.

Thats also interesting as there have been suggestions that Apache 2.2.3 and QoS are not happy with each other. No QoS at uni

Heh only 20Mb+ at uni mate ? I'm sure u're on at least 155mbps..... Ahhhhh the good ol days of JANET hacking Even brings a tear to my eye.

Sadly, the speed you get depends on your local JANET MAN (Metropolitan Area Network).
