Re: windows updates

If the updater keeps bugging you and you want rid of it you can disable automatic updates via this method.

First click start, then right click on My Computer and goto properties, from there click on the automatic updates tab, in here you can select it to be disabled.

Note: This will mean no more automatic updates until you change it back to the default or other selected setting.

Re: windows updates

I've noticed Firefox and windows update don't like each other.

Mine tried updating to IE7 a while back but I disabled the updater since I would rather gnaw my own arm off and place my nuts in a blender on turbo spin then use IE7 after the mess it made on my pc.

Re: windows updates

Also the possibility that the M$ update servers are overloaded. It happened during August, and October to my mates PC's - he had exactly the same symptoms as you. That is because all the systems with automatic updates enabled are attempting to download from M$. Do a manual update like has been said, and you should be fine
