windows updates
i have win xp in the living room and win xp in the bedroom, this morning my pc downloaded internet explorer 7, as there was an alert to do this at the task bar, but when i turned on the laptop, the yellow triangle came up to check for updates but it didnt do anything, why was this? do all pcs download updates at different times? im worried now

I just use windows update when im ready to bother.I cant say as they really stress me out at all
you could just go to windows update and grab them

yeah but remember all the trouble i had with getting norton off and installing zone alarm and avg etc, i wonder if all thats got anything to do with it

If the updater keeps bugging you and you want rid of it you can disable automatic updates via this method.
First click start, then right click on My Computer and goto properties, from there click on the automatic updates tab, in here you can select it to be disabled.
Note: This will mean no more automatic updates until you change it back to the default or other selected setting.

I've noticed Firefox and windows update don't like each other.
Mine tried updating to IE7 a while back but I disabled the updater since I would rather gnaw my own arm off and place my nuts in a blender on turbo spin then use IE7 after the mess it made on my pc.

Also the possibility that the M$ update servers are overloaded. It happened during August, and October to my mates PC's - he had exactly the same symptoms as you. That is because all the systems with automatic updates enabled are attempting to download from M$. Do a manual update like has been said, and you should be fine
