BBC2 Scotland

Has anyone else lost all sound to BBC Scotland in the glasgow area. All other channels are fine just BBC2 and NTL do't seem to have noticed.

Ignore please, A reboot from power off at the wall seems to have brought the sound back, second time this week and the box is only 3 weeks old.

Yes same here, no sound on Ntl digital and Freeview but was ok on analogue. First noticed it during Who Do You Think You Are, went off for about 10 mins, the again during Bill Oddie.

I would have thought that was a bonus?

Well there's the clue -- NTL take their feed for BBC2 from Freeview, so that was why all went silent. So not actually NTL's fault, and the reboot "fixing" it was merely coincidence.

Re: BBC2 Scotland

Just as a matter of interest what other channels do NTL take from freeview ? It may an idea if somebody has the time to do it to make a Sticky thread on how we get our tv pictures such as which comes from Langley tv headend and what is direct to regional heads and what comes from freeview and Sky. Just an idea so everybody could know in case of any channel problems.

Wink Re: BBC2 Scotland

The only channels that are taken from Freeview are the BBC Channels - This is purely because of licensing issues.

Um... If it was the case, NTL would be in a lot of trouble for also broadcasting versions of BBC channels taken from satellite (as they do for the four regional variations, and the AD channels).

Also, I'm pretty sure that (at least) ITV 1 and 2 and Channel 4 and 5 are taken from the local DTT feed, or at least they were a couple of years ago when I was first learning about these things. It used to be the case that you could tell the DTT-sourced channels because they were the ones that used DVB subtitles (as Sky don't support these). I don't know whether this is still true though.

Channel Five is taken from Crystal Palace, not the local Transmitters, theres no local adverts on C5 DTT.
Theres a few others they also take from DTT such as ftn, and at least one Music Channel. S4C and S4C2 in Wales are also taken from DTT.
