Tv Drive Unbearably Noisy
Has anyone else found the constant drive access noise (due to replay live TV) unbearable. We have it in a new cabinet with the door closed but its low rumble and drive `chatter` drives me mad. Me thinks its complaint time!

Think your final statement valid. Complain now.
My drive makes no noise at all.
Good Luck.

Hi,
Mine does the same more so in the evening - reported this to Telewest CS when I first got the box, they sent and engineer out who replaced the box. Now on third box each has had the same problem.

They all make a noise, no TVDrive is silent. You are always going to get a bit of noise from the hard drive (no pc hard drive is silent, quiet yes but not silent) also the TVDrive I assume must have some sort of cooling fan which makes a noise as well.
All the little bits add up so it'll never be silent, but it shouldn't be over noisy just a slight humming noise which will be drowned out by the TV.

No fan in TVDrive - so make sure that you keep in well ventilated.
But no noisier than my computer.

Are you sure mate? the one I looked at yesterday looked as if it had a couple of hard drive cooler type ones sat above the hard drive, I didn't want to take the lid off though to have a proper look

Only going by what I've read - and the fact the top and one side have loads of vents.
My mother has a DTT PVR which does have a fan, and that only has a vent at the back.

Thanks all - ended up calling the engineer out and even though he said "oh thats normal mate" I insisted he try the new box and (yes you've guessed it) absolutely silent, no noise whatsoever I am now very happy - thanks again for the replies

Re: Tv Drive Unbearably Noisy
TVD can make noise, if it's not ventilated properly, cabinets with closed doors also lead to freezing/blanking/blocking pictures. No fan in them though. I've heard ones that are really quite loud. Just tech it, if it's to loud.

Re: Tv Drive Unbearably Noisy
if you get some electostaticallyprecipitated dust clusters on the blades of the cooling fan it can run asymetrically
you can buy cans of compressed air with a long tube and give the inards a good blast
. . . may help . . . . . . . . . .

As I said, Thanks to all my problem of freezing and noise has completely gone now for over 2 months since the last box was swapped by Telewest, had to wait several days to have it done though, apparently Telewest are stacked out with problems, but I'm a happy Telewest customer now!
